HANOVER, N.H. – In the second game of the Big Green Classic, the Dartmouth field hockey team came back from a two-goal deficit to beat Missouri State, 5-3. The Big Green won its own tournament with a 2-0 record, defeating Fairfield on Friday, 2-1. Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) recorded three goals in the game, including the tying goal.
The Big Green used 26 shots in the second half of the day to tally four goals, taking the victory. Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) started things off when she got one back for Dartmouth as the junior took a point-blank shot on netminder Steph Anderson, lifting it past the goalie on the right side.
Dartmouth tied the game off a Hood shot at 18:12. Dartmouth got a corner but was unable to get a shot off. With traffic in front, Hood found the ball on her stick, putting it through Anderson's legs for the equalizer.
At 4:58 the Big Green potted the go-ahead goal. Another corner set up by Peisch with Lisa Masini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) there to stop allowed Hood to score another goal. Less than two minutes later, Hood added her third of the game to give Dartmouth the final score of 5-3. Peisch's assist had her breaking Dartmouth's career assist record with 33.
Missouri State jumped on the board first at 26:36 on its first and only shot on net so far in the game, resulting in a goal as Sarah Cusick got it past Meagan Vakiener (Port Murray, N.J.).
MSU's second shot on net at 9:53 resulted in a second goal as Hillary Lawless brought the ball down alone, pulling Vakiener out of the net. Lawless ran right past her and was able to shoot around a Dartmouth defender who was in the cage attempting to keep the ball out.
Dartmouth jumped on the board with a huge shot by Hood. Dartmouth's ninth corner in the game resulted in the
goal. Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany) pushed it in with Maya Herm (Bethesda, Md.) stopping for Hood.
Hood took the ball and lifted it right over netminder Steph Anderson
for the goal.
The third Bears goal at 3:45 had Lara Tavares getting the ball past Vakiener for the third score of the game. Traffic in front off of Missouri State's only corner of the half allowed Tavares to catch Vakiener off guard.
The Big Green outshot the Bears, 50-6 and recorded 22 corners to MSU's one.
Dartmouth will be back in action on Sept. 9 at home against Pacific at 3 p.m.
