Field Hockey Set for Home Opener this Weekend

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team plays its first home matches of the season this weekend at Chase Field, hosting Merrimack on Friday and Sacred Heart on Sunday in the first extended homestand of the Jason Klinkradt era.

Last Time Out
Dartmouth opened its season with a 1-5 loss at Boston University on Sept. 6. Amelie Luessmann scored the Big Green's lone goal, while Lucia Campaño put four shots on frame and Gemma Franco each put one. Dartmouth was outshot 21-10 and split goalkeeping duties, with Kylie McKinley and Julie Seth each playing a half and making five saves apiece.

Players to Watch
Luessmann opened her season with Dartmouth's first goal of the year at Boston University, finishing with two points on one shot on goal. Campaño also got four shots on frame in the opener and will look to build on that against a Merrimack defense that has already allowed 20 goals this season. In goal, Dartmouth split time between McKinley and Seth in the opener, and how Klinkradt deploys his goalkeepers this weekend will be worth watching as the Big Green look for their first win of the season.

Scouting Merrimack
The Warriors are 0-3 to open the season and have been outscored 20-3 in the process, including a 1-10 loss at Bryant on Sept. 4 and a 0-3 defeat at Holy Cross on Sept. 6. Merrimack is shooting .429 as a team but has managed just seven shots total across three matches. Emily Beichert leads the offense with two goals and four points, with Carly Green (two assists) and Alisia Hamm (one goal) also factoring into the scoring. Goalkeeper Audra Szymborski has faced a heavy workload, making 38 saves on 71 shots on goal for a .745 save percentage.

Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers are also 0-3, though their matches have been tighter, dropping a 2-3 decision to Ball State, a 1-2 game at Bucknell and a 0-3 loss at Yale on Sept. 4. Sacred Heart is averaging 8.7 shots per game and has scored three goals on the season, led by Holly DeAngelo's goal-and-assist effort for a team-high three points. Bridget McLaughlin and Hailey Vogt have each scored once as well. In goal, Ruby Butler has a 2.00 goals-against average and a .700 save percentage, while Brianna Cooper has a 3.09 GAA.
