STARKVILLE, Miss. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Monday (Oct. 10) that Dartmouth senior pitcher/utility Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.), third baseman Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) and junior pitcher Morgan Wharton (Binghamton, N.Y.) were named 2010 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.
Baker, hit .297 in 29 games during her junior campaign and was 9-10 from the circle. She recorded six multi-hit games with three runs and four RBIs. Barker also added four home runs and three doubles on the season. In 22 appearances in the circle, she played 10 complete games in 114 innings of work wihth 67 strikeouts on the year.
Khalil, an honorable mention All-Ivy League selection as a junior and a first team selection as a freshman, appeared in 39 games, starting in 38 last season. In her junior season, Khalil hit .294 and posted a team-leading six home runs and nine doubles while leading the Ivy League in walks (18). Khalil also led the squad with 27 RBIs and recorded 32 hits on the season. Khalil is interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
Wharton appeared in 21 games at the plate and made three appearances in the circle during her sophomore campaign. She hit .167 in 12 at bats and tallied six runs scored with one RBI. Tallied a 0-1 record in the circle and in 3.1 innings pitched recorded one strikeout and three earned runs. Wharton is also interested in a medical career.
The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. The award is the second component of the Association's academic award program. The teams with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as a 2011 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic team.
