HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth softball team fell to Harvard in both games this afternoon from Hanover on Senior Day.
Jensin Hall recorded her 100
th strike out of the season during her start in the second game and tallied eight strike outs on the day.
Olivia Schramm recorded a .400 batting average with two extra base hits and an RBI.
GAME 1: Harvard 7, Dartmouth 5
Two hits in the top of the first allowed Harvard to take an early 1-0 lead.
The game went scoreless until the bottom of the third.
Jenna Brown reached on an error and
Alaana Panu singled on a hard-hit ball to the pitcher.
Faby Serna recorded an infield single and scored Brown.
Justice Malone ripped a double to right field and sent Panu home, 2-1 Big Green.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Marilyn Beauvais walked to get on base and
Brianna Bailey pinch ran for her.
Jenna Brown rocked a double and advanced Bailey to third. Panu recorded a triple and scored Bailey and Brown, 4-1 Big Green.
The Crimson got two runs back off three hits in the top of the fifth, 4-3 Big Green. Dartmouth responded right away in the bottom of the inning. Singles from Malone and Schramm put them on first and second.
Scarlet Niles came to the plate as a pinch hitter and dropped a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. A Beauvais single scored Malone, 5-3 Big Green. The sequence forced a pitching change out of Harvard. The new pitcher, Ryan Grace, was able to retire the side after Dartmouth extended the lead.
Harvard recorded four runs in the top of the sixth inning off five hits to go ahead 7-5.
Isabel Kirby replaced
Rachel McCarroll in the circle. Two more hits brought
Jensin Hall in for Kirby. Two walks were allowed but Hall struck out the next batter to get out of a bases loaded jam.
Hall took care of the Crimson with a one-two-three inning in the top of the seventh with one strike out. Harvard held the Big Green and took the victory 7-5.
GAME 2: Harvard 8, Dartmouth 4
The top of the inning was a one-two-three for the Big Green with Hall recording two strikeouts. The bottom of the inning brought a solo homer for Serna, 1-0 Big Green.
A two-run home run from Harvard put them ahead in the top of the fourth, 2-1. Beauvais responded with a two-run homer of her own to put the Big Green back on top, 3-2. The home run forced a pitching change for Harvard.
Georgia Bilski followed that up with a double down the left field line but was left stranded.
Harvard tied the game in the top of the fifth for a 3-3 ball game. The game once again went scoreless for a few innings until the top of the seventh. The Crimson tacked on five runs off five hits to take an 8-3 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Big Green put one more run on the board, but it wasn't enough and Harvard took the victory 8-4.
