ITHACA, N.Y. — The first day of the main draws of the ITA Northeast Regional in singles and doubles began on Friday in Ithaca, N.Y. The Dartmouth men's tennis team had six advance in singles and three doubles teams advance. The team went undefeated on the day by winning four singles matches and two doubles.
In singles, two of the Big Green were seeded in the draw and earned a bye in the opening round. Junior Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.) is the tournament's fourth seed and senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) is the tournament's 17th seed. Centenari plays Roope Kailaheimo of Stony Brook and Laser plays Erik Blumenkrancz of Yale on Saturday.
Sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) defeated Gustav Kallen of St. John's, 6-4, 6-3, and will play a seeded player from Princeton on Saturday. Senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) upended Scott Warden of UConn in the opening round, 6-2, 6-2, and takes on the 14 seed from Princeton on Saturday.
Freshman Chris Kipouras (San Ramon, Calif.) defeated Brandon Gallegos of Niagara, 6-2, 6-2, and will compete against a seeded player from Brown on Saturday. Sophomore Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) needed three sets to defeat Stefan Ilic of Stony Brook, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Ghorbani takes on the seven seed from St. John's in the round of 64.
In the doubles portion of the tournament, two of the three Dartmouth doubles teams competed on Friday, and advanced to the round of 32. The combo of junior Alex De Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) and Kipouras fought off match point to defeat Jacob Spreyer and Scott Warden of UConn, 9-7. De Chatellus and Kipouras take on the third seed from Harvard on Saturday.
The other Big Green doubles team in action was DeBot and Ghorbani. The duo beat Ike Kiro and Holger Norregaard of NJIT, 8-5. DeBot and Ghorbani face the ninth seed from St. John's on Saturday. Dartmouth's third doubles team, Centenari and Laser, earned a bye in the first round as the tournament's fifth seed. The duo takes on a team from Marist on Saturday.
