HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 8 Dartmouth women's squash team took two 9-0 wins on Saturday. The Big Green began the day traveling to Middlebury and shutting out the Panthers before coming home to pick up its first Ivy win of the season with a sweep of Brown at the Berry Racquet Center.
Against Middlebury, spots 1-4 on the ladder as well as No. 6, No. 7 and No. 9 were all won in three for Dartmouth. Sarah Loucks (Boston, Mass.) at No. 5 and Katherine Nimmo (Wellesley, Mass.) at No. 8 were each taken to four games before winning their matches.
Dartmouth was strong with five 3-0 wins against Brown as three matches went to four games and one went to five. Loucks at No. 5 had a tough time with Sophie Scherl as the two traded the first two games 11-8 each. Loucks took game three 11-9 before dropping game four, 11-3. The fifth match was exciting as Loucks came away with the 13-11 victory.
On the day No. 1 Valeria Wiens (Hanover, N.H.) won both her matches as did Hannah Conant (Philadelphia, Pa.) at No. 2, Corey Schafer (Natick, Mass.) at No. 3, Becky Lau (Toronto, Ont.) at No. 4, Kensy Balch (Edmonton, Alta.) at No. 6, Melina Turk (Winnipeg, Man.) at No. 7 and Julia Watson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) at No. 9.
The Big Green will be back in action on Feb. 18-20 at the Howe Cup Championships hosted by Princeton.
