PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team got its spring season started at the Siena College Homewood Suites played at The Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Fla., splitting the squad into two teams for the tournament. Led by junior Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.), the Big Green finished the first of two rounds in a tie for sixth with Hartford at 338 (+50).
The Dartmouth golfers were clustered together in the mid-80s, with co-captain Roland carding an 83 (+11) to end the day in a tie for 19th. One stroke behind her was freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) in a tie for 21st, while junior co-captain Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) had an 85 to tie for 25th. Rounding out the team were sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) with an 86 and senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) with an 89.
The second Big Green team had three golfers post an 85 (+13) — sophomores Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.), along with freshman Evan Sterneck (Leawood, Kan.). Rounding out the team was junior Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.), who carded a 93 as the second squad finished eighth with a 348 (+60)
Leading the field was Stetson with a 309 (+21), followed by Fairleigh Dickinson seven strokes back. The lowest individual scores were posted by a pair of Stetson golfers — Alex Buelow and Lauren Cate with one-over 73s.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
