FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Dartmouth softball team won its second game of the season with a 7-5 victory over Colgate on the final day of the Stevens Industries Florida Gulf Coast tournament.
The Big Green got even for a season opening loss to the Raiders. With the win, Dartmouth improves to 2-3 on the season while the Raiders fall to 2-3.
Dartmouth took the early lead with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning. A walk and a fielders choice had runners at first and second for Britta McOmber (Bothell, Wash.) who singled with a bunt that allowed one runner to come home. A two-out single by Jonele Conceicao (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) ended the scoring for the Big Green.
The Raiders responded with four in the bottom half of the frame to take a 4-2 lead as sophomore Alana Dyson capped the inning with a two out triple to right center that drove in two runs.
Dartmouth then responded with four more runs in the third to pull ahead, 5-4. Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) started things off with an infield single before Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) doubled to left field. Noelle Ramirez (Pompton Plains, N.J.) drove in Kolodziej with a single through the left side as the Big Green had runners on the corners. A one-out double by Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) plated two more before she scored an unearned run on a Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) single to left field.
Another unearned run in the fourth allowed Dartmouth to take a 7-4 lead and capitalize on one of three errors by the Raiders. Another run by Colgate in the fifth cut into the Big Green lead but it wasn't enough as the Raiders stranded nine on the day.
Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) started the game for Dartmouth giving up nine hits and just one earned run in six innings of service, while Evan Gray (Edmond, Okla.) pitched one scorless inning.
Ramirez was 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI and Kolodziej was 2-for-4 with one run.
The Big Green will be back in action again on March 17, taking on Long Island in Florida during Dartmouth's spring trip.
