SUFFERN, N.Y. — With junior Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) and freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) finishing the first 18 holes of the Roar-EE Invitational tied for ninth place with six-over 78s, Dartmouth found itself in sixth place out of the 13 competing teams at the end of the first day with a team score of 323 (+35).
Fairleigh Dickinson took the lead by four strokes over Penn with a 305 (+17), while Lehigh's Crystal Lee paced the field with the lone score under par at 70 (-2). Host Columbia is one spot ahead of Dartmouth in fifth with a 318 (+30).
Both Roland and Knapp were quite consistent throughout the round. Roland shot par on 13 of the 18 holes with four bogeys and one double bogey, while Knapp parred 10 holes and birdied one, taking a bogey on the other seven.
Senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) joined her two teammates among the top 15, just one stroke back with a 79 in a tie for 13th. Also competing for the Big Green were junior Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and sophomore Colleen Carroll with an 88 and a 90, respectively. Participating as an individual was sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.), who enjoyed a 79 (+7) to tie for 13th along with Gulemi.
The second and final round will take place on Saturday with tee times starting at 10:40. Campbell will be the first Big Green golfer on the tee at 11:43 a.m., before the rest of the group starts at 12:46 p.m.
