HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's track and field team hosted Vermont and Middlebury on Sunday and junior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) stole the show in the Big Green's win. Dartmouth took the top spot with 99 points, Vermont finished second with 49 points and Middlebury placed third with 48 points. In all the Big Green won 12 of the 19 events.
Pappas competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and set a new school record, winning the event at 10:38.72. The previous record was held by Laura Tabor '08 at 10:38.81. The other top performer for Dartmouth was Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas). The senior took the top spot in three throwing events. She won the shot put at 13.15 meters, the hammer throw at 49.19 meters and discus at 44.26 meters.
Dartmouth took the top spot in three other field events. Junior Malina Simmers (Anchorage, Alaska) won the triple jump at 11.82 meters. In the pole vault, sophomore Karla Verkouw (Lancaster, Pa.) won with a height of 3.35 meters. In the high jump, freshman Janae Dunchack (Northern Cambria, Pa.) finished first in the high jump at 1.70 meters.
In the running events, freshman Arianna Vailas (Manchester, N.H.) crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run at 2:11.58. Junior Laura Hempel (Tallahassee, Fla.) placed first in the 1500 meter at 4:41.70. In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) crossed the finish line first at 1:00.72.
The Big Green also won both of the relays. In the 4x400, the team of senior Kaleigh Wood (Shortsville, N.Y.), freshman Megan Krumpoch (Shrewsbury, Mass.), junior Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) and Tanner took first at 3:53.64. The quartet of Dunchack, Simmers, junior Kristina Black (Skokie, Ill.) and Tanner won the 4x100 at 51.58.
Dartmouth competes next week at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational on April 22-23.
