NORTHFIELD, N.J. — At the conclusion of the first round of play at the Ivy League Women's Golf Championship at Atlantic City Country Club, the Dartmouth Big Green sit in sixth place at 38-over par with a 326. The Yale Bulldogs have a three-stroke lead over Harvard, shooting a 310 (+22) on the day.
Leading the Dartmouth group was freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) with a seven-over 79 in a tie for 11th place. The rookie had an all-or-nothing front nine with four birdies, three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys. She found some consistency on the back nine, however, with six pars, two bogeys and a double bogey to complete her round.
Another freshman, Columbia's Michelle Piyapattra, was the only golfer to shoot even par with a 72 and will take a three-stroke lead into Saturday's action, ahead of Harvard's Mia Kabasakalis.
The four other Big Green golfers all shot either 10- or 11-over par. Junior Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) had a pair of birdies but suffered through just two bad holes to tie for 19th with an 82 along with sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.). Meanwhile, senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Marietta Smith both started well but faded over the back nine to tie for 24th, each with an 83.
The second round will begin tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
