Women Remain in Sixth Through Two Rounds

NORTHFIELD, N.J. — The Dartmouth women's golf team improved in the second round of the Ivy League Championship by three strokes to maintain its position in sixth place at 73-over par (649). Senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) led the Big Green with an 80 (+8) this afternoon as none of the 35 individual participants managed to break par.

Penn and Yale are tied for the team lead with a 620 (+44) as the Quakers shot the low round of the day with a 306 (+18). Michelle Piyapattra of Columbia will take a six-stroke lead at one-over par (145) into the final 18 holes tomorrow.

As in the first round, Knapp had a nine-hole stretch during which she did not get one par, but was able to mix in a few birdies. Gulemi finished strong, playing the final 11 holes at two-over par with a birdie on nine and three bogeys. Knapp finished the day in a tie for 13th, while Gulemi sits in 25th place with a 163.

Sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) shaved a pair of strokes off her first-round score with an 81 (+10) on Saturday, to move into a tie for 26th with junior Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.), who matched her 82 from Friday with another today. Sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) rounded out the Dartmouth contingency with an 88 (+16).

The final round will begin on Sunday morning starting at 7:30 a.m., with Brown and Dartmouth paired together to start the day.
