NORTHFIELD, N.J. — Freshman Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) fired an even-par 72 on the final day of the Ivy League Women's Golf Championship at Atlantic City Country Club to finish with a 231 (+15) for the three rounds and take 11th place. By virtue of finishing among the top 12, Knapp was named to the All-Ivy second team.
Dartmouth slipped back a spot into seventh place in the team standings with 967 (+103). Yale took home the team title with a 913 (+49), by four strokes ahead of Harvard. Princeton made a run by shooting even par today — the best round of the tournament — but still finished seven strokes back in third.
Taking home medalist honors was freshman Michelle Piyapattra of Columbia, winning the tournament by a whopping 10 strokes at two-under par with a 214. On Sunday, she finished her title run with a three-under 69, one of just three rounds under par in the entire tournament, each occurring in the final round.
Knapp began the day with a birdie — the first of four on the day — and was one-over par after the front nine. Heading into the 13th hole, she was at two-over when she registered one of just two eagles in the entire tournament. She followed that up with a birdie on 14 before finishing out the round at even par.
The next lowest finisher for the Big Green was junior Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) in 25th place with a 244 (+28). Senior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) was just two strokes behind Roland in a tie for 27th, while sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and sophomore Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) rounded out the Dartmouth contingency scores of 249 (+33) and 253 (+37), respectively.
In a unanimous vote of the league's seven coaches, Yale freshman Seo Hee Moon was chosen as the Ivy League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. She finished the championship in fourth place at 10-over par. Of the top six finishers, four were freshmen, while six of the 11 to be named All-Ivy were rookies as well.
