HANOVER, N.H. — For the second consecutive season, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse season ended in an overtime loss to Brown. On Saturday, the Bears came away with a 13-12 victory at Scully-Fahey Field. The loss dropped the Big Green to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League. Brown improved to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
In the first overtime game for Dartmouth this season, the Big Green had the first opportunity in the extra frame, but the Bears senior goalkeeper saved the shot of freshman Jeff Perkins (Dallas, Texas). On the Brown attack, the Bears took a shot which Dartmouth goalkeeper Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) blocked away from the net. Brown junior Parker Brown picked up the ground ball and fired a shot that bounced past Campbell to earn the victory for the Bears.
The game went back-and-forth the entire contest. In the opening quarter, each team scored three goals. Perkins man-down goal highlighted the Big Green's three goals. The second quarter was similar to the first with both teams tallying three goals. The Bears scored the first goal of the second half, but Dartmouth scored four of the next six goals to take a 10-9 lead into the fourth quarter. Brown responded by netting the first three goals of the fourth to put the Big Green in a 12-10 hole with 8:25 left in the game. With their backs against the wall, the Big Green rallied to score the final two goals of regulation to force the game to overtime.
Senior Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Nikki Dysenchuk (Darien, Conn.) led the Big Green with four points each. Both players recorded three goals and tallied an assist. Three other Dartmouth players had multiple points. Sophomore Chris Costabile (Sykesville, Md.) scored one goal and had two assists, freshman Patrick Resch (Flourtown, Pa.) had two assists and junior Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) had a goal and an assist.
Campbell finished the game with 14 saves, marking his eighth straight game with double-digit saves. Dartmouth went 2-for-4 in man-up situations, while the Bears went 0-for-4.
It marked the only overtime game of the season for the Big Green. Dartmouth last played an overtime game in the final game of the season last year. The Big Green lost 10-9 at Brown in the first overtime on May 1, 2010.
Saturday marked Senior Day for five Big Green athletes. Besides Miller, Dartmouth celebrated the careers of Adam Boardman (Brattleboro, Vt.), Jack Steele (Longmeadow, Mass), Josh Etzion (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Mikey Whitcomb (Lyme, N.H.).
