BOSTON, Mass. – The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Harvard, 17-14, on Friday night at Jordan Field in the Ivy League opener for both teams.
Dartmouth (4-3, 0-1 Ivy) was led by
Alex Jessey and
Thomas Power, who each recorded four goals in the contest. Jessey added an assist for a five-point performance, while
Stu Gates contributed two goals and two assists.
Harvard jumped out to an early lead with five goals in the first quarter, though Dartmouth responded with three goals of its own to keep the game within reach heading into the second.
The Big Green surged in the second quarter, scoring five times, including three goals from Power and two from Jessey. Jessey's goal with one second remaining before halftime gave Dartmouth an 8-7 lead heading into the break.
Harvard regained momentum in the third quarter, scoring four goals, while Dartmouth countered with goals from
Nick Moore,
William Stahl and
Emmett Paradine to remain within striking distance entering the fourth.
The Crimson pulled away in the final period with six goals to build enough separation to secure the win despite Dartmouth continuing to answer offensively. Stahl finished with two goals, while Paradine added a goal and an assist. In net,
Max Becker made 14 saves for the Big Green.
