Men's Lacrosse Adds Max Waldbaum as Offensive Coordinator

HANOVER, N.H. – Men's lacrosse head coach Sean Kirwan has announced the hiring of Max Waldbaum as the next Big Green offensive coordinator. Waldbaum joins Dartmouth after an extensive college career and coaching stop at Tufts.

Waldbaum arrives with a decorated playing career that spanned three seasons at Tufts and two at Jacksonville, highlighted by All-America honors, a NESCAC championship and some of the most prolific offensive seasons in Jacksonville program history. Most recently, Waldbaum spent three seasons as an assistant coach for offense at Tufts University, where he was instrumental in leading the Jumbos to three consecutive NCAA Division III national championships, in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Waldbaum joins the Big Green after spending three seasons at Tufts as an assistant coach for offense. Waldbaum was instrumental in the Jumbos winning three consecutive national championships. While with the Jumbos Waldbaum was crucial in developing 28 All-Americans, one IMCLA Offensive Player of the Year, 15 NEILA Division III All-New England honorees, and was apart of the Tufts' coaching staff named National Coaching staff of the Year in 2025.

Waldbaum spent his final two collegiate seasons at Jacksonville University, where his development on and off the field earned him back-to-back Tewaaraton Award Watch List honors and two-time All-America recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, Inside Lacrosse, and, in 2022, USA Lacrosse Magazine.

His teammates named him a team captain ahead of the 2022 season, and he answered by putting together the most productive offensive season in program history: 72 points on 48 goals and 24 assists, the most points ever recorded in a single Jacksonville season, and the second- and third-most single-season goals and assists in program history, respectively. He posted nine games with five or more points and seven games with four or more goals.

Waldbaum carried that trajectory into his final season in 2023, when he was tabbed the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Player of the Year and earned Preseason All-American recognition from Inside Lacrosse and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. He went on to record 21 goals and 13 assists.

Waldbaum began his career at Tufts, where he was part of back-to-back New England Small College Athletic Conference championship teams that combined for a 37-4 record, including a run to the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals.
As a sophomore in 2019, he led the team with 68 goals, the second-most in the New England Small College Athletic Conference that season, and added 12 assists for 80 points, recording multiple points in 20 of the team's 21 games. He earned New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week twice that year.
