AMHERST, MASS. — The Dartmouth women's track and field team competed at the UMass Invitational on Saturday and took second place. At the event, the Big Green had four first-place finishes, and junior Malina Simmers (Anchorage, Alaska) set a new school record in the triple jump. UMass Amherst took the top spot in the team competition with 194 points, Dartmouth finished second at 163.50 and New Hampshire placed third with 150 points.
In the triple jump, Simmers finished second with a school-record jump of 12.28 meters (40-03.50 feet). Matthan Chatterton-Richmond '06 held the previous record at 12.09 meters.
In other field events, freshman Corinne Kominkiewicz (East Brunswick, N.J.) won the discus at 39.39 meters (129-03.00 feet). Senior Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) placed second in the discus at 39.11 meters (128-04.00 feet). Alexander also placed second in the hammer throw and second in the shot put. In the hammer she had a throw of 47.86 meters (157-00.00 feet), and had a throw of 12.76 meters (41-10.50 feet) in the shot put.
Junior Alyson Pickett finished third in the javelin with a throw of 39.37 meters (129-02.00 feet). Senior Jessica Robson (Newport Beach, Calif.) placed second in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5-03.00 feet).
Senior Alex Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) won the 400 meters at 56.47. In the 5000 meters, junior Nina Brekelmans (Queretaro, Mexico) took the top spot at 18:22.38. Freshman Megan Krumpoch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:03.62.
The Big Green took the top two spots in the 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore Olivia Durr (Boyds, Md.) placed second at 14.84, and junior Trojano Priscilla (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) finished third at 15.07. In the 800 meters, sophomore Kaitlyn D'Orazio (York, Maine) placed third at 2:16.05.
Dartmouth competes next weekend at the Ivy Heptagonals hosted by Yale.
