NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth women's track and field team competed at the Women's Ivy League Heptagonal Championship on Saturday. After day one of the competition, the Big Green are in seventh place with seven points.
Caitie Meyer (Weston, Mass.) had the best finish for Dartmouth, competing in the 10,000 meters. The freshman took third with a time of 34:39.62 in the only running event completed on the first day. The only other point scorer for the Big Green was junior Alyson Pickett in the javelin. Pickett placed sixth in the competition and finished with a mark of 40.16 meters (131-09.00 feet). Senior Jaclyn Wypler (Ridgewood, N.J.) took seventh in the javelin at 39.90 meters (130-11.00 feet).
In the other field events, Dartmouth had four finishes in the top ten. Senior Tina Alexander (Austin, Texas) finished ninth in the hammer throw at 45.59 meters (149-03.00 feet). In the shot put, freshman Corinne Kominkiewicz (East Brunswick, N.J.) placed seventh at 13.46 meters (44-02.00 feet), and Alexander took ninth at 12.69 meters (41-07.75 feet). Sophomore Karla Verkouw (Lancaster, Pa.) finished tied for eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters (11-05.75 feet).
Junior Priscilla Trojano (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) leads the Heptathlon after four events with 2,849 points. Junior Rachel Pallin (Kenosha, Wis.) is in fourth with 2,785 points. Trojano won the competition in 2010.
The Big Green had multiple competitors qualify for the finals on Sunday. In the 1,500 meters, freshman Arianna Vailas (Manchester, N.H.) qualified at 4:32.44. Dartmouth had two athletes reach the finals in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Alex Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) made the finals with a time of 59.91, and freshman Megan Krumpoch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) qualified at 1:02.74. In the 800 meters, Junior Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) reached the finals with a time of 2:09.24.
