Lightweight Crew Opens Season with Wins over Delaware

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Dartmouth lightweight varsity eight picked up the Big Green's lone win against Cornell, defeating the Big Red to take the Baggaley Bowl on Saturday.

Racing was on the Cayuga Inlet, with a 2000 meter course that had a variable stiff headwind.

The varsity eight won its race in a time of 6:17.9 ahead of Cornell in a time of 6:23.9 to bring home the Baggaley Bowl.

Cornell won the other four races on the day including the second varsity eight in a time of 6:26.1 with Dartmouth second in 6:31.9. The third varsity eight went to the Big Red in 6:34.2 with the Big Green second in 6:56.9.

Cornell won both of the freshman eights as well. The Big Red crossed in 6:22.3 in the first novice eight ahead of the Green in 6:32.5. Dartmouth was second in the second novice race in 6:51.7 with Cornell ahead in 6:45.0.

Dartmouth is back on the water on May 15 for the Eastern Sprints in Worcester.
