WALNUT, Calif. - On the first night competition of the 54th annual Mt. Sac Relays, the Dartmouth women kicked off the meet with a record-setting performance from senior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The California native was the top collegiate runner in her heat Thursday night, labeled as the "3,000-Meter Steeplechase Invite Elite". She crossed the line in 9:58.41, breaking her own program record in the event set two weeks ago at Princeton when she ran a 10:07.58.
This marks the second time that Pappas has broken her own record in the steeplechase as entering the outdoor season she held the previous record of 10:25.82.
Pappas' previous time of 10:07.58 had been the fastest mark in the nation this year.
Senior Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) claimed 35th in the 1,500 meters. Supino ran a 4:24.90 to take third in her heat at Hilmer Lodge Stadium located on the Mt. San Antonio College campus.
Dartmouth sent several of its top distance runners on both the men's and women's sides to compete at the Mt. Sac Relays.
The rest of the Big Green will get underway Friday at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
