WEDNESDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team is back on the road Wednesday afternoon
against Boston University. The Big Green and Terriers will meet up at 3 p.m. inside
Nickerson Field on Commonwealth Ave.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth is coming off its first Ivy League win of the
season in the conference opener Saturday afternoon in New Haven. The Green took
down rival Yale, 10-6, at Reese Stadium thanks in large part to the four goals
and six points of senior Hana Bowers and a collective team effort on defense.
SOLID STREAK
The four-goal victory on Saturday marked Dartmouth's fifth
straight win over Yale dating back to the 2009 season.
WHERE WE RANK
Despite continuing to win games, the Big Green dropped one
spot in this week's IWLCA Poll to No. 13. The team held at No. 13 in the most
recent release of the Inside Lacrosse deBeer Media Poll.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
BU has played just one game this season, a 9-8 overtime win against
14th-ranked UMass last Wednesday (Feb. 27). Kristen Mogavero and Sydney Godett
each scored their first goals of the year in the extra frame to help the
Terriers earn their first win over a ranked opponent since knocking off the Big
Green, 9-7, at home on Mar. 9, 2011. For her part in dishing out two assists in
the game with the Minutewomen, freshman Ally Adams was awarded the America East
Rookie of the Week. Goalkeeper Christina Sheridan made six saves in the win,
allowing a goal on the only shot she face in overtime.
LAST TIME AGAINST BU
In the last meeting in Hanover on Mar. 7, 2012 between the
two regional rivals, Dartmouth jumped out to leads of 4-0, 9-1 and 10-4 by
halftime before finishing the day with a 13-6 victory. Sarah Plumb '12 led the
way with four goals and five points along with a program record nine draw
controls, one off the Ivy League mark for a single game. Then-freshman Frances
Bird scored the first two goals of her career with Lindsay Allard also adding a
pair in the win.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE
TERRIERS
These two teams have been semi-regular opponents since 1986.
In 16 all-time meetings between the two programs, Dartmouth holds an 11-5
advantage after last season's seven-goal triumph at Scully-Fahey.
CAREER DAY
Bowers, fresh off her first Ivy League Offensive Player of
the Week award, scored four times and finished with six points against the
Elis. The goal and point totals were the most in a single game in Bowers'
three-plus season career in Hanover.
UNDERRATED
If Bowers' point totals garnered all the attention, it was
fellow senior and captain Kelsey Johnson who was the afternoon's most
underrated player in New Haven. Johnson posted career highs of six ground balls
and three caused turnovers in helping the team to its best defensive outing of the
year.
THE FIELD WITH THE
FAMILIAR FEEL
Nickerson Field may have a familiar feel to some Dartmouth
women's lacrosse fans. True, the team played there two seasons ago, but it was
also site of the 2006 NCAA Championship. The Big Green finished as the national
runners-up that season, falling to Northwestern, 7-4, in the title game. BU
hosted the Final Four with Dartmouth, Northwestern, Duke and Notre Dame taking
part. The Big Green knocked off the Irish, 14-8, in the semifinals to advance
to the national championship, keeping Notre Dame in single-digits for the first
time all season.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
After just one game of conference play, Dartmouth sits in a
familiar spot atop the league standings. Brown and Cornell also are 1-0 in Ivy
play and are undefeated overall at 3-0 and 2-0, respectively. Only Princeton
and Penn have yet to take on an Ancient Eight foe to this point with Columbia,
Yale and Harvard all 0-1 in league games.
DOMINANT DARTMOUTH
Against the Bulldogs, the Big Green were seemingly in
control the whole game, holding advantages in shots on goal
(21-12), ground balls (20-13) and draw controls (10-8), while turning the ball
over eight fewer times (18-10) and being whistled for five fewer fouls (27-22).
STRONG STARTS
For the third straight spring,
Dartmouth has jumped out to at least three straight wins. Last year, the team
went five games without a loss, while posting a 3-0 mark to open the 2011
campaign.
WHAT'S AHEAD?
Following Wednesday's game with the Terriers, Dartmouth will
return home to take on No. 2 Florida Saturday at noon. The Gators will be
making their first trip to Hanover after the Green headed south to Gainesville
last season.
