ITHACA, N.Y.—Dartmouth women's lacrosse fell 11-6 to Cornell on Saturday in Ithaca. Despite the loss, Dartmouth's Maya Kendall broke the Ivy League and Dartmouth record for career draw controls.
The opening quarter saw just two goals with each team tallying a goal. Cornell opened the scoring at the 7:00 mark before Samantha Bennett tied the game with a goal at the 3:21 mark.
Shots were 3-2 Cornell after the first quarter while the Big Green were 5-5 on clears.
The Big Red scored the first three goals of the second quarter to take a 4-1 lead. With 23 seconds left in the half, Charlotte Myers made it a two-goal game with her 19th goal of the season.
Mia Puccio scored the lone Dartmouth goal in the third quarter as Cornell scored six times to take a 10-3 lead to the fourth quarter.
Dartmouth looked for a comeback in the fourth quarter as they started with three goals to open the fourth. Madeline Egan scored the first goal of the frame at the 11:00 mark before Bennett scored her second and third goals of the game at the 8:31 and 7:11 marks. The comeback bid came up short as Cornell scored once more and held the Big Green off the board.
M. Kendall finished with 11 draw controls, she now has 420 in her career which sets a new Ivy League and Dartmouth record. The previous record was held by Kathryn Giroux '19 as she recorded 418 from 2016-19.
Bennett led Dartmouth with four points as she had three goals and an assist. Egan and Myers each had a goal and an assist.
Ruby Lucken started in the cage for Dartmouth, the first-year made eight saves in the loss.
The Big Green went 15-15 on clears while also forcing 13 Big Red turnovers. Caroline Geggerty, Mia Jensen, Kathryn Norton, Etta Coburn, and Puccio all forced a turnover. Both Caroline Kendall and Puccio each had two groundballs.
Dartmouth returns to Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday, April 4 at 3:30 to take on Yale.
