MACON, Ga.—The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team closed out its trip down south with a 17-8 win over Mercer on Monday afternoon in Georgia.
It was Mercer who opened the scoring in the first quarter but the Big Green responded with seven straight goals in the first quarter while Mercer was held off the board. Lauren Riley scored the first goal to tie the game which was followed by a goal from Charlotte Myers just 15 seconds later. Etta Cobrun scored twice in the opening quarter while Samantha Bennett and Catherine Erb scored once while Myers added her second goal to close out the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Big Green outscore the Bears 5-1. Bennett opened the stanza with a goal at the 8:48 ark before Mercer scored its second goal. The Big Green then got goals from Bennett, Madeline Egan, Kate Riley, and Ryan Hapgood to end the second quarter. The Big Green took an 12-2 lead to the locker room after outshooting Mercer 13-6 in the first half.
Mercer scored the first two goals of the third quarter but the Big Green responded with goals from Mia Puccio and Myers to regain the 10-goal advantage.
Heading to the fourth quarter the Big Green led 14-4 and held 15-8 shots on goal advantage.
Both Dartmouth and Mercer traded goals in the fourth quarter as Mercer scored four times and Dartmouth three. Coburn completed her hat-trick while Myers notched her fourth goal and Erb scored her second of the game to make it 17-7 with 2:29 left. Mercer scored with 41 seconds left to make it a 17-8 final.
Ruby Lucken played the first 43:23 of the game while making seven saves and picking up the win. Jordan Healy made one save in the final 16:36 to close out the game. As a team this season, the Big Green have made 64 saves with Lucken leading the way with 49.
Myers had a team best five points in the win over Mercer with four goals and an assist. Corburn and Erb each had hat-tricks while nine different players scored for the Big Green.
Egan had a pair of assists and a goal as she now has a team best 46 points with 24 goals and 22 assists, she is second in the Ivy League in points this season and fourth in goals.
Myers leads the Ivy League with 24 assists this season while adding 18 goals.
The Big Green were credited with eight caused turnovers with both Mia Jensen and Caroline Haggerty each having two caused turnovers. Kathryn Norton led the team with three groundballs while both Egan and Caroline Kendall picked up two each.
Maya Kendall recorded seven draw controls and has 409 in her career, the Dartmouth and Ivy League career record is 418.
Dartmouth returns to Ivy League play on Saturday, Mar. 28 at Noon in Ithaca, N.Y. against Cornell. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
