BOSTON – Abbey D'Agostino broke her own Dartmouth and Ivy League women's record in the mile Friday evening at Boston University's Terrier Invitational. The senior crossed the line second overall in 4:28.31, besting her old indoor mark of 4:30.03 set last year.
In a race that was built for speed with some of the best distance runners in the country at either a collegiate or professional level, the Big Green's D'Agostino was less than three seconds back of the collegiate record for the event (4:25.91). Her new time ties Villanova's Vicki Huber as the third-fastest mark ever run by a collegiate woman and the seventh best in American history during the indoor season.
Mary Cain and Jordan Hasay, both pro runners with Nike Oregon, were first and third, respectively, in the mile. Sophomore Dana Giordano was 10th overall in 4:47.64, running in another heat.
Not to be outdone, senior Megan Krumpoch set a new school record in the 800m at BU as well, running a 2:06.31 to take second overall in the race. Krumpoch eclipsed the old mark of 2:06.94, set by Chrissy Supino '12 two years ago on the same track.
Dartmouth's sprinters and those in field events and throws were at Northeastern's Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Center Friday night as well.
Sophomore Jennifer Meech led the way with a second-place showing in the 400m, crossing the line in 56.96, while Katy Sprout was fifth in 58.24. Meech also earned third in the 200m as she ran a 25.47.
Stephanie Brown took sixth in the pole vault (10-11.75/3.35m) as was Jennie Cunningham in the other 800m (2:17.24) run in Boston by the Big Green Friday night.
Emmaline Berg was second in the shot put with a toss of 45-7.0/13.89m, while a measured distance of 48-1.25/14.66m was good for eighth in the weight throw.
