After playing at home for the past three weekends in a row, the Dartmouth volleyball team will hit the road for New York this coming Friday and Saturday to face Ivy League foes Columbia and Cornell.
Last Weekend in Leede Arena – After an impressive 3-1 win over Harvard to open conference play at home the week before, the Big Green returned to Leede Arena for back-to-back Ivy League matches against Brown and Yale. On Friday, Dartmouth won its first set against Brown (25-17) before dropping the next two (25-23, 25-20), but evened the score with a 26-24 fourth set. In dramatic come-from-behind fashion, the home team had a 15-12 final set to take the match. The following day, the Big Green remained close to Yale, but ultimately fell in three sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16).
So Far in the Ivy League – With three matches under each Ancient Eight's belt so far, the conference standings are constantly changing. Dartmouth is in a three-way tie for second with a record of 2-1 and a winning percentage of .667. The Green and White are also first in blocks (118), second in assists (604), and third in aces (73) and digs (766).
In the Rankings – A handful of Big Green players have appeared in the individual rankings. Paige Caridi and Emily Astarita are third and fourth in kills with 153 and 152, respectively. Caridi is also fourth in kills per set with 3.06, while Julia Lau is fifth with 207 digs.
Lowdown on the Lions – Coming into this match, Columbia has a record of 6-6 and is 2-1 in Ivy League play. The Lions opened conference action on Sept. 27 with a 3-1 victory over Cornell and, most recently, had a three-set sweep of Penn and a 3-1 loss to Princeton.
Scouting the Big Red – Cornell enters Saturday's match with a record of 3-10 and is looking to snap its five-match losing streak following losses to Syracuse, Binghamton, Columbia, Princeton and Penn. The Big Red's last victory was a 3-1 win over Albany on Sept. 21. Regardless of the team's record, defensive specialist Natasha Rowland is currently leading the Ivy League with her 5.38 digs per set.
Next up for the Big Green – Following its weekend in New York, Dartmouth will return to Hanover for matches against undefeated Princeton and Penn on Oct. 17 and 18. After that, the Big Green will go on a five-match, five-state road trip and will play just two more matches in Leede Arena before ending the regular season.
