Dartmouth Closes Out 2014 Saturday at Cornell

THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team will conclude its 2014 campaign on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, New York, with a noon game against Ivy League foe Cornell.

LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped their fourth straight on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Granite State rival UNH on a cold and windy afternoon in Durham. Freshman Julia Donald scored the visiting team's lone goal of the game, finding the back of the cage in the 38th minute, almost immediately out of the halftime break.

SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red sit alone in third in the Ivy League standings with a 4-2 conference record and one game remaining on their schedule. Cornell was knocked from the top of the league standings by Princeton on Saturday with a 3-2 loss at home in their most recent outing. Marisa Siergiej leads the team in both goals (13) and points (27), while Taylor Standiford (11) and Ann DiPastina (10) are the clubhouse leaders in assists by a wide margin. The team has split time in the cage between Kelly Johnson and Elizabeth Schaeffler with Johnson's 1.25 goals against average, .714 save percentage and 7-3 record giving her the edge in terms of playing time.

AGAINST CORNELL
For the 12th straight year, Dartmouth's season will end against Cornell. In the last meeting in Ithaca, the Big Green came away with a 2-1 win thanks to a last-minute goal from Sam McPherson '13 to cap the 2012 campaign. McPherson had Dartmouth's earlier goal in the 39th minute of action to tie the contest, setting up her own late-game heroics with just 54 seconds remaining in regulation.

MOVIN' ON UP
Senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer moved into the program's top-five in career saves thanks to her 11 stops at UNH on Sunday afternoon. Meyer now has 307 career saves, ranking fifth all-time and bumping Lauren Balukjian '06 and her 303 down to sixth. Meyer's 138 saves this season not only lead the Ivy League with one game remaining, but also currently stand as the fourth-best total in program history, two shy of Nicki Demakis' 140 set in 1985.

ONE FOR No. 2
Senior captain Ali Savage needs just one goal in her final collegiate game to move alone into second on Dartmouth's all-time goal scoring list. Currently, Savage has 47 tallies, tying her with Lauren Welsh '03 for second among all Big Green players. As it stands now, Savage's 118 career points already rank as the second-best figure in program history. The Australian native is behind Kelly Hood '12 in both statistical categories.

SENIOR DAY REVISTED
Having already celebrated the final home game of their collegiate career against Harvard, Saturday's game against the Big Red will mark the final time in a Dartmouth uniform for three members of the Class of 2015 as Savage, Meyer and Janine Leger will all wrap up their careers wearing the green and white.

TYING A CAREER HIGH
Junior Brooke Van Valkenburg's goal against the Crimson was her second of the season and moved her into fifth on the team's scoring list with seven points, tying her career high she set as a freshman in 2012 (3-1—7).

GOOD SIGNS MOVING AHEAD
Dartmouth will lose its top-two scorers after the season with the graduation of Savage and Leger in the spring. However, the two individuals who occupy the No. 3 and No. 4 spots on the scoring list are freshmen Julia Donald (4-2—10) and Anna Rowthorn-Apel (4-1—9). Fellow freshman Anna Ewasechko is sixth with six points (2-2—6) following an assist on the Van Valkenburg goal on Saturday.
