Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Kaitlin Whitehorn, Jr., Huntington, N.Y., Multi, Women's Indoor Track & Field
In the first meet of the season for the Dartmouth track & field programs, Whitehorn stood out. The junior's talent on both the track as well as in the infield remained sharp in the offseason as she performed well in multiple events at BU's Track & Tennis Center on Saturday. Whitehorn won the high jump by clearing 5-5.75/1.67m on her first attempt at the height. She was not done with the win in her signature event, continuing a dominating day with a second-place showing in the 200m. She ran a 25.00 to take second in a field of 37 individual competitors, falling short of a season-opening double by just sixth-hundredths of a second.
Tyler Sikura, Sr., F, Aurora, Ontario, Men's Hockey
The captain of the Dartmouth men's hockey team accounted for three of his team's five goals in a weekend split at No. 15 Quinnipiac and Ivy League rival Princeton. The only goal of the game for the Big Green in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Bobcats came in the second period and earned Sikura the No. 1 Play of the Week as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon after the senior batted a puck out of mid air and into the back of the net. He followed that up with his first multi-goal game in more than two years, scoring in each of the first two periods against the Tigers at Hobey Baker Rink. His first tally of the night proved to be the game winner as Dartmouth collected two league points at Princeton for the first time in three seasons.
