HANOVER, N.H. – No. 1 Boston College pushed its unbeaten streak to 18 with a 6-1 win against the Dartmouth women's hockey team Wednesday night at Thompson Arena.
The Big Green fell to 4-6-1, while the Eagles improved to 17-0-1 on the season thanks to their 15th straight win. The only BC game that produced a result other than a win so far this year was a 2-2 tie at St. Lawrence on Oct. 11.
Senior Morgan Illikainen scored the home team's lone goal, finding the back of the net at 4:56 in the second period, with assists going to junior Laura Stacey and sophomore Eleni Tebano.
While holding the Big Green to just five shots in the first period, the Eagles scored three times off 14 attempts. Alex Carpenter, who leads the country in goals, assists and points, had a hand in all three tallies, scoring first at 2:56 and assisting on goals scored at 13:16 and 15:35.
The Upper Valley squad returned to the ice for the second period with more aggression and was narrowly outshot, 11-10. Following a BC penalty, Illikainen scored her second marker of the season on the power play. Just over a minute later, the Eagles regained their three-goal advantage with a Dana Trivigno marker at 6:15.
Though suffering the loss, sophomore goaltender Robyn Chemago turned aside 27 shots. At the other end of the ice, Katie Burt stopped 29 in picking up the win. Shots were 33-30 in favor of the visitors, but the Green held a 15-8 edge in the final 20 minutes as they played to the final horn.
Boston College was 2-for-5 on the power play, while the home team was 1-for-3 with the extra attacker.
On Sunday, Dec. 14, Dartmouth will play its first of six consecutive road games, heading to Burlington for a 7 p.m. puck drop against Vermont.
