BOSTON – The Dartmouth women's indoor track & field team placed second Saturday evening at Northeastern's Jay Carisella Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The Big Green finished the meet with 147 points, second to only the host Huskies (153.50) and ahead of Granite State rival New Hampshire (126.50).
Dartmouth was led on Saturday by the record-setting performance of junior Kaitlin Whitehorn in the 60m. Whitehorn ran a 7.49 in the event's final, breaking the previous meet record and helping the Green and White to 10 team points.
Jennifer Meech took second and another eight points in the 200m, running a 25.11. Meech was also third in the 400m, crossing in 57.35 to pick up another six points. She was the Big Green's middle runner as freshman Marissa Evans (2nd, 57.16) and junior Anna Kikut (4th, 58.65) helped the team from the Upper Valley dominate the top of the race's leaderboard.
The Big Green also dominated the 1000m as freshmen Bridget O'Neil (1st, 2:58.61), Bridget Flynn (2nd, 2:58.82) and junior Liz Markowitz (3rd, 2:59.96) claimed the top three spots.
Meggie Donovan (5:03.51) and Meghan Grela (5:07.09) went 1-2 in the mile, while another individual Dartmouth win came in the 800m as sophomore Aliyah Gallup took the top spot with a 2:20.79 to her credit. Junior Molly Shapiro picked up the final victory of the day for the Green, taking home the title in the triple jump with a measured jump of 38-4.75/11.70m.
Other strong showings came from: Kathleen Sprout (3rd, 1:18.61) in the 500m, Lauren Ready (3rd, 9.07) in the 60m hurdles, the 4x400 team (2nd, 4:09.63) and Marina Plesons (11-9.75/3.60m) in the pole vault.
