Back on the Road
• With the conclusion of a brief two-game homestand, Dartmouth finds itself back on the road for four of the next five contests, beginning with a trip to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood.
• The Big Green could not pull out Paul Cormier's 300th game as Dartmouth's head coach as New Hampshire spoiled the occasion with a 65-63 win at Leede Arena on Sunday.
• The winning bucket came with 3.6 seconds to play, and Malik Gill's 25-footer at the buzzer bounced off the back iron.
• Two days earlier, Connor Boehm managed to hit a game-winning trey as time expired to lift the Big Green to their first win of the season, 68-67, over IPFW.
• Alex Mitola leads Dartmouth with 15.0 points per game on the strength of 12-of-27 (.444) shooting beyond the arc, and his 3.0 triples per game lead the Ivy League.
• Boehm heads up the Green's efforts on the glass as he is tied for the conference lead with 8.8 rebounds per game, plus he led Dartmouth with 14 points and six boards against New Hampshire.
• The other Big Green player scoring in double figures with Mitola is Gabas Maldunas at 11.5 ppg. The 6-9 senior is second in the Ivy League in blocks (2.3 bpg) and second on the squad with 7.0 rebounds per game.
• As a team, Dartmouth is second only to Harvard in three-point percentage (.385) as a team.
Series vs. Longwood
• This is the fourth meeting between the Lancers and Dartmouth, and the Big Green have won the first three — twice in Hanover and 61-53 two years ago in Farmville.
• No Dartmouth opponent is happier to see John Golden on the bench than Longwood. The senior, who is injured, has averaged 15.3 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 60.7 percent (17-of-28) overall and a sizzling 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from three-point range against the Lancers.
• Both Gabas Maldunas and Alex Mitola have averaged around 14 points versus Longwood as well, but it is the 5-11 Mitola who has the best rebounding average among the current players (6.0) against the Lancers.
• Cormier is 3-0 in his career against Longwood and 4-1 against teams in the Big South.
Scouting the Lancers
• Longwood may be only 2-5, but it hasn't had the easiest of schedules. All five losses are by double digits, the last four consecutively on the road against Youngstown State, Eastern Michigan, George Washington and Iowa.
• Turnovers have been a problem for the Lancers as they coughed the ball up 18.3 times a game.
• Four players average in double figures, led by Lotanna Nwogbo at 15.1 ppg, thanks to shooting 63.5 percent (40-of-63) from the floor and 81.3 percent (26-of-32) at the line.
• Nwogbo is also the Lancers' best rebounder at 9.1 per game. No one else has even 3.5, and they have been outrebounded by nearly six per contest.
• As a team, Longwood has struggled from long range at just 31.2 percent. Ryan Badowski is the only player hitting at least one three-pointer per game at 19-of-56 (.339).
• Shaquille Johnson runs the offense and has handed out 28 assists, but also has 32 turnovers.
• At the free throw line, the Lancers are shooting 66.1 percent.
• Jayson Gee is in his second season as Longwood's head coach with a 10-29 record thus far. The veteran coach also spent seven years as the head man at his alma mater, Division II Charleston (W.Va.), where he posted a mark of 160-55.

300
While not as violent as the movie, Paul Cormier coached the 300th game as Dartmouth's head coach in the 65-63 loss to New Hampshire on Nov. 30. Only two other coaches in program history have guided the squad for more games — Alvin “Doggie” Julian oversaw 419 games from 1950-66, and Cormier's former assistant Dave Faucher coached 344 contests from 1992-2004.
Nearly An Encore
Just two days after Connor Boehm lifted the Big Green to a win over IPFW at the buzzer with a three-pointer, Malik Gill nearly did the same against New Hampshire. The Wildcats broke a 63-all deadlock with 3.6 seconds left on Nov. 30 on a running one-hander just outside the lane. Gill, who in the final 10 minutes of the contest had already hit a pair of threes that gave Dartmouth the lead, quickly brought the ball up the floor and fired up a shot from 25 feet as time expired. But he could not replicate the magic from two days earlier as the ball only caught the back of the iron.
Among the League Leaders
Juniors Connor Boehm and Alex Mitola are each leading the Ivy League in a statistical category. Boehm is tied for top honors among the rebounders at 8.8 boards per game to match the output of Yale's Justin Sears. Mitola, meanwhile, has hit more three-pointers per game (3.0) than anyone in the Ancient Eight. In addition, Mitola ranks among the top six in both scoring (15.0 ppg, 5th) and three-point percentage (.444, 6th), and senior Gabas Maldunas is second in blocked shots per game (2.3).
Boehm Buzzer Beater
Dartmouth got a huge boost from power forward Connor Boehm on Nov. 28 as the junior drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Big Green to a 68-67 win in their home opener against IPFW. Boehm had knocked down just 16 three-pointers in his first two seasons, and a mere six last year. But with sharp-shooter Alex Mitola triple-teamed on the final possession, Boehm was wide open from the wing to turn a defeat into victory. It was the first one-point win since David Rufful converted a three-point play with one second left to beat St. Francis (N.Y.), 65-64, on Jan. 18, 2010.
Don't Forget the Double-Double
With Connor Boehm's game-winning triple, he registered his third career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. It was the first time the Big Green was on the winning end of his seven career games with at least 10 boards.
Rally from Double-Digit Deficit
When Dartmouth fell behind IPFW by 10 points in the first half on Nov. 28, recent history did not give the Green much chance of coming back to win the game. The last time they trailed by at least double digits at any point in a game and still won was against Army on Dec. 11, 2010. Dartmouth fell behind by 12 in the second half, and was still down 10 with 13:30 to play, yet defeated the Black Knights, 71-68, taking the lead for good in the final minute.
