Having only played on the road since the season started at the beginning of this month, the Dartmouth volleyball team will have one more weekend of travel before its home opener next week. This time, the Big Green will head to South Orange, New Jersey, for the Seton Hall Classic to face Middle Tennessee on the first day and host Seton Hall and Fordham on Saturday. The Green and White have little experience against these teams, as this is just the second time facing Seton Hall and Fordham, and the first playing Middle Tennessee.
Last Weekend – At the John Kaiser Tournament last Friday and Saturday, Dartmouth had a packed schedule with two matches on both days. Opening play against host St. John's, the Green and White defeated the Red Storm for the first time in program history, going to five sets. The team from the Upper Valley dropped three sets to Fresno State before having five-set wins over St. Francis Brooklyn and New Hampshire the following day.
Awards – While at St. John's, sophomore Lottie MacAulay was named all-tournament for her 33 kills, four digs, and four aces. All of her aces occurred in the win over St. John's.
Scouting the Blue Raiders – Middle Tennessee, which is 3-7 on the season, is entering its fourth straight tournament. The Blue Raiders opened 2014 with a loss to Pittsburgh at the Hampton Inn Invitational, ending the weekend with a record of 1-2 following a victory over Bowling Green and a loss to Dayton. Last weekend, they split their matches, falling to Illinois before defeating Belmont.
Scouting the Pirates – After falling to Miami in its first match of the season, Seton Hall went on a five-match winning streak before the run was cut short with a loss to Nevada on Sept. 6. At the Mountaineer Invitational this past weekend, the Pirates went 2-1 after defeating Montana and Saint Francis (Pa.) and dropping three sets to West Virginia.
Scouting the Rams – With three tournaments and almost a month of matches already under its belt, Fordham has yet to defeat an opponent, going 0-10 so far in 2014. Matches against Sacred Heart last weekend and Rider on Sept. 5 were close, going to five sets before the Rams ultimately fell.
Next up for Dartmouth – Dartmouth volleyball will open its home slate with four consecutive matches in Leede Arena. First, the Big Green will face Bryant at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, their last non-conference match of the 2014 season. On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Green and White will host Ivy League foe Harvard at 4 p.m. On Oct. 3-4, Dartmouth will face Brown and Yale at 7 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
