Twin-State Rival On Tap
• With just two non-conference games remaining on the schedule, Dartmouth travels to a familiar foe in Twin-State rival Vermont on Wednesday. For the Catamounts, this is their last game against a team outside the America East.
• The Big Green are coming off a 57-46 loss to Harvard in their Ivy League opener last Saturday.
• The 46 points were a season-low for Dartmouth, as was its 33.3 field goal percentage.
• Power forward Connor Boehm doubled up on his recent outside-shooting prowess, drilling a career-high four three-pointers in just five attempts against the Crimson to lead Dartmouth in scoring for a second straight game, this time with 16 points. He had a season-high 20 in a win at Bryant on New Year's Eve and is second on the team with an 11.3 ppg scoring average.
• Guard Alex Mitola is the Big Green's leading scorer, but had his string of 16 consecutive games in double figures come to an end with just six points versus Harvard. His 14.2 ppg ranks sixth in the league, and he leads the loop with 3.1 three-pointers per game.
• Center Gabas Maldunas averages in double figures as well at just under 11 ppg, making Dartmouth the only school in the league with three players among the top 15 scorers.
• The Big Green boast two of the best ball-handlers in the league in Mitola and junior Malik Gill, both of whom have a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, a figure bested by only one Ivy player.
Series vs. Vermont
• This is the 99th game between the two schools, and Dartmouth owns a 57-41 record.
• This is also the 53rd consecutive year they have met on the hardwood, the longest streak for any Dartmouth non-conference opponent.
• The Big Green dominated the series through 1972, winning 44 of 51 games against Vermont.
• The Catamounts have had the upper hand since with a 33-14 mark over the past 42 seasons, while winning the last six and 14 of the last 15.
• The lone Big Green win in the last 15 years came at Leede Arena six years ago, 76-75. The last win in Burlington came on Nov. 18, 1998, 69-64.
• Head coach Paul Cormier is 5-8 in his career against Vermont.
Scouting the Catamounts
• Since suffering through a four-game losing streak — all by single digits — Vermont has won its last two, both America East games and both by 14 points over Maine and Stony Brook.
• The Catamounts have played two other Ivy schools this year, both at home, losing to Harvard in overtime and Yale by one.
• Forward Ethan O'Day is the team's leading scorer at 11.5 ppg while leading the squad with a sizzling 59.2 field goal percentage and 32 blocks as well.
• O'Day isn't the only accurate shooter with guards Trae Bell-Haynes (.531, 9.2 ppg) and Dre Wills (.579, 8.2 ppg).
• Small forward Kurt Steidl is the Catamounts' best long-ball threat with 25 three-pointers at a 38.5 percent clip, but Cam Ward (14 threes), Hector Harold (13) and Brandon Hatton (12) will all fire one up from deep.
• As a team, Vermont is shooting 46.4 percent on the season and a blistering 55.3 percent in three conference games.
• The Catamounts are solid at the line (.704) and hold their own on the boards as well (+0.6 rebound margin) with Wills owning a team-high 5.1 rpg.
• John Becker is in his fourth season at Vermont with a 74-43 record, finishing first or second in the league every year so far. The 1990 Catholic graduate spent five seasons as an assistant before taking over the reins, and also spent two seasons as the head coach at Gallaudet in the late '90s.

Dartmouth Defeated in Ivy Opener
For the 28th straight year, the Big Green began their Ivy League portion of the schedule by taking on Harvard, which has won three straight conference crowns outright after sharing one in 2010-11. Unfortunately, the Crimson improved to 18-10 in those league openers with a 57-46 win over Dartmouth on this court last Saturday. Harvard has won 11 straight games in the series dating back to the last Big Green win in Cambridge on Jan. 24, 2009. The good news for the team is that the next time the two meet on the hardwood will be at Lavietes Pavilion on Jan. 24, 2015, exactly six years since that game. Looking for lightning to strike twice …
Role Reversal for Boehm, Mitola
One would not expect a 6-7 power forward and a 5-11 point guard to seemingly reverse roles on the court, but in the two games before Vermont, that's pretty close to what has happened for juniors Connor Boehm and Alex Mitola. Entering the Bryant game, Boehm had a total of two three-pointers on the season while Mitola ranked fifth on Dartmouth's career long-ball chart. Yet Boehm has hit 6-of-8 from behind the arc in the two contests, including a career-high four in the Ivy League opener versus Harvard.
Meanwhile, Mitola became one of the Big Green's top rebounders, first grabbing a career- and team-high nine boards at Bryant on New Year's Eve, then snaring six more against the Crimson. If at least one of the games had been played on a Friday, the phenomenon could be called freaky.
Maldunas Near 900 Points
Center Gabas Maldunas enters the game at Vermont needing exactly one point to get to 900 for his career. If he can add another 100 on top of that before the end of the season (not even seven points a game), he would become the 26th player in the program's history to tally 1,000. The last player to reach the milestone was Alex Barnett '09 six years ago.
50 Percent Threshold
Connor Boehm enters this game second among Ivy League players in field goal percentage at .538, making him one of just four players hitting at least half of their shots. Even more impressive is that Boehm is shooting better than 50 percent for his career (.505), a mark only seven other Dartmouth players with at least 200 field goals have achieved, led by Brian Burke '84 (.572, 406-of-710).
Others Among the League Leaders
Entering this game, junior Alex Mitola is leading the Ivy League in minutes played (35.6 per game) and three-pointers per game (3.1) and is third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6). He and Malik Gill make for a good combination in that latter category as Gill is second with a slightly better 2.6 ratio. Gill is also fifth in steals (1.5), while Gabas Maldunas is fifth in blocked shots per game (1.7), seventh in field goal percentage (.477) and eighth in rebounding (6.6).
