MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Playing on the road for the first time since the season started two weeks ago, No. 51 Dartmouth was defeated by No. 46 Minnesota, 6-1, on Friday evening. The Big Green dipped to 3-2, while the Golden Gophers improved to 5-1.
Dartmouth's lone point came at No. 3 singles, when sophomore Diego Pedraza had a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ruben Weber.
The No. 22-ranked duo of senior Chris Kipouras and junior Dovydas Sakinis defeated Jack Hamburg and Mathieu Froment in the top spot by a score of 5-3, but the other two Dartmouth doubles teams were defeated by their Golden Gopher opponents, giving Minnesota a one-point lead heading into singles.
Sakinis' match against No. 17 Leandro Toledo went to three sets, with the Big Green junior winning the first by a score of 6-3, but Toledo was able to take the final two, 7-5, 6-1, to secure the match. Freshman Max Fliegner also fell in three, winning the middle set, 6-4, and dropping the first and third, 7-5, 6-1.
Dartmouth returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 1 when it faces No. 38 Drake at 11 a.m.
