DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 51 Dartmouth men's tennis team fell to No. 38 Drake on Sunday afternoon in what proved to be a very close match, losing by a score of 4-3. The Big Green are now 3-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 5-1.
Senior Chris Kipouras and junior Dovydas Sakinis both had strong performances on the court, ending the day undefeated by taking down ranked opponents. The No. 22-ranked duo picked up Dartmouth's lone doubles' victory with a 6-2 win over Alen Salisbasic and Ben Lott at No. 1.
In singles action, No. 65 Sakinis took on No. 46 Salisbasic in the top spot, falling in the first set by a score of 6-3 before taking the final two, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 2, Kipouras came from behind to defeat No. 30 Lott, 7-6(8), 6-2.
Freshman Ciro Riccardi earned the Green's first point as he handily defeated Calum MacGeoch by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Classmate Max Fliegner fought Bayo Philips at No. 6, winning the second set by a score of 6-1, but falling in the other two, 6-3, 6-2.
From Feb. 13-16, the Green and White will take part in the ECAC Championship. Previously set to take place in New York, the tournament will now be held at Harvard.
