HANOVER, N.H. — Sophomore Fanni Szabo and junior Daisy Jordan scored in double figures, but No. 19/21 Princeton held on for an 83-65 victory over the Dartmouth women's basketball team on Saturday evening at Leede Arena.
With the loss, Dartmouth drops to 10-8 on the season and 1-3 in Ivy League play. Princeton continues its hot run and is now 19-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Szabo's 18 points paced the Big Green, who finished the contest shooting 39 percent overall. Jordan did a fine job in the interior with 14 points. Freshman Amber Mixon had nine points and although the number didn't show had one of her best defensive games. Senior Milica Toskovic had seven points and seven assists.
It was a back and forth battle for the first eight minutes of the first half as Dartmouth sat within two possessions and trailed by two (16-14) on a jumper by Dawson with 12:55 left. Princeton took a 14-point advantage, 37-23, on a jumper by Alex Wheatley after a trey by Blake Dietrick. Dartmouth finished out the half strong as Tia Dawson played beat the clock with an inbounds jumper to put the Big Green down 44-35.
Annie Tarakchian led the Tigers with 12 points and the team shot 69 percent making 18-of-26 from the floor. Inside the Tigers scored 24 of their 44 points inside the paint and held a 17-9 edge in rebounds.
Princeton held a double-digit lead throughout the second half and took its largest lead of the contest by 20 (65-45) on a layup by Mariah Smith.
Wheatley finished with 17 points for the Tigers and Dietrick and Tarakchian had 15. Vanessa Smith contributed nine points and Princeton shot 60 percent overall.
Dartmouth will conclude its five-game homestand with two more Ivy games next weekend against Yale and Brown.
