Penn, Princeton Recap
Dartmouth dropped a pair of home games last weekend to Penn and No. 19/21 Princeton. On Friday, the Quakers used a tough defensive zone and slowed down the pace of the game and came away with a 55-39 win. Sophomore Fanni Szabo led the Big Green with 14 points. Penn's Sydney Stipanovich had a game-high 16 points. On Saturday, Dartmouth trailed by nine at the break, but the Tigers still remained undefeated with an 83-65 win. Szabo finished with 18 points and junior Daisy Jordan had a season-best 14 points in the defeat.
Yale Series
The 75th meeting between the Big Green and Bulldogs will take place on Friday evening in Hanover. The Big Green hold a 51-23 advantage against the squad pressed up against the Long Island Sound. Yale swept the season series last season for the time since 2010-11. After dropping five of the first seven meetings, Dartmouth won 21 of the next 23 meetings. In the 1980 season, Dartmouth defeated Yale in the only playoff matchup between both sides.
Scouting the Bulldogs
One of two undefeated teams in the Ivy League, Yale enters the weekend 4-0 in Ivy play, the first time since the Elis won their only Ivy League Championship during the 1979-80 season. Their six-game unbeaten streak is also the longest since the 2006-07 season. Yale began the season with one of the hardest non-conference schedules in many years. Trips to Alaska, Arizona State, Oklahoma and Washington prepared the team for league play. A mid-season injury to senior Sarah Halejian should have been the downfall for Yale, but sophomore Katie Werner and freshman Tamara Simpson have pulled together and lead the team in scoring with 9.5 and 9.2 points per game, respectively.
Yale / Cornell Highlights
Brown Series
The 76th meeting between the Big Green and Bears will conclude the second full Ivy Weekend on Saturday evening. Just like the all-time series with Yale, Dartmouth holds a commanding 50-25 edge. As of late, Dartmouth has dropped six of the last eight after winning the previous nine consecutive games. Both sides have met in five playoff games and met in the NCAA Play-In game, a Dartmouth loss in the 1994 season.
Scouting the Bears
Under first-year head coach Sarah Behn, Brown has seen its share of ups-and-downs this season. Brown started the Ivy season 0-3, but a win against Columbia last Saturday, 85-76, may be a spark for the Providence-based program. Jordin Alexander leads the team in scoring at 15.9 per contest and is trailed by Sophie Bikofsky at 12.9. Brown will face Harvard on Friday before meeting Dartmouth.
Brown / Columbia Highlights
Climbing the Ranks
Senior Tia Dawson is making the best of her senior campaign. After missing nearly all of last season due to an injury, the Big Green veteran is moving up Dartmouth's All-Time rankings in rebounds and blocks. She is currently 15th in rebounds with 518 and has passed some all-time greats like Jeannie Cullen '06, Ashley Taylor '07 and Allison Greene '90. In blocks, Dawson is ninth with 109. She is four away from tying Elise Morrison '06 and 12 away from Jayne Dagle '86.
Big Green Can't Hold onto Second-Half Lead
Harvard erased a 14-point second-half deficit and took its first lead with 1:01 remaining in the contest as the Crimson stunned the Dartmouth women's basketball team, 75-69, on Saturday evening at Leede Arena. Sophomore Fanni Szabo led the Big Green with 25 points on 10-of-24 from the field. Junior Lakin Roland added 12 points. Dartmouth shot 40 percent from the field and outrebounded the Crimson, 38-32.
Big Green Picked Sixth in Ivy Poll
Dartmouth was chosen tied for sixth place in the Ivy League preseason poll as announced by the League office on Oct. 28. Defending Ivy League champion Penn and previous league winner Princeton both received 123 votes for a share of the top spot. The Tigers though were granted nine first-place votes, while the Quakers had seven. Harvard was chosen third and also received one first-place nod. Yale secured fourth place, followed by Cornell, Dartmouth and Columbia in sixth, respectively and Brown in eighth.
