TULSA, Okla. – Dartmouth men's tennis senior Dovydas Sakinis wrapped up play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America Championship on Saturday following a loss in the Round of 16.
In the second round of the main draw of singles on Friday, Sakinis received a walkover from Denver's Henry Craig, so the Big Green senior automatically moved into the Round of 16.
The following day, he faced Conrad Zieba of Northwestern in the Round of 16, falling in the first set, 7-6, but coming back to win the second, 6-2. With it all coming down to the third set, Zieba walked away with a 6-2 win to take the match and end Sakinis' All-America journey.
“Today's match came down to a few points in each set,” assistant coach Tom Boysen said. “Both players stepped up at different points and produced some good tennis. Dovydas got into a good rhythm in the second set and had Conrad on the ropes a bit. Hats off to Zieba. He served great, especially on the big points. Now we'll head back to Dartmouth to start preparing for Regionals.”
The Green will have less than two weeks until they head to Connecticut for the ITA Northeast Regional Championship.
