ELLINGTON, Conn. — The Dartmouth men's golf team saved its best round for last at The Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club, firing a five-under 283 — the lowest known score in the golf program's history — as a group to finish comfortably in second place at two-under par in the three rounds. TCU took home the team title at the par-72, 6,936-yard course with a three-round total of 845 (-19), beating the 16-team field by 17 strokes.
All four Big Green golfers that scored today shot at least even par, led by junior Scott Jaster with the lowest score for Dartmouth in any of the rounds with a three-under 69. Jaster had four birdies and just one bogey to give him the third-lowest round of the day. But it was freshman John Lazor who had the best tournament, carding a 70-72-72—214 (-2) to place fifth among the 87 golfers.
Also finishing among the top 10 was sophomore Ian Kelsey as he ripped off a two-under 70 today to move up into a tie for sixth with a 215 (-1). Junior Jeff Lang recovered from a difficult second round to shoot even par, helped along the way with an eagle, as he tied for 20th with a 221 (+5). Jaster's final round boosted him 34 places into a tie for 24th, just one stroke behind Lang. Senior Dylan Rusk, who matched Lazor for the Big Green's low score in round two, carded a 79 (+7) on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 39th at 10-over par.
A pair of TCU golfers claimed the top two spots atop the leaderboard with Paul Barjon edging out his teammate, Chelso Barrett, for medalist honors by a single stroke at 11-under par (205). Boston College, which matched the Big Green on Tuesday with a 283 (-5), was bolstered by Matt Naumec's tournament-low 65 (-7) in the final round as the Eagles climbed the team standings into third at seven-over par.
