PISCATAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Dartmouth women's golf team finished the first day of the Rutgers Invitational with three of the top 15 individuals to end the first two rounds in fifth place out of the 11-team field. Freshman Julia Calbi was one of just two golfers on the day to finish either round under par, firing a 71 (-1) the second time around to tie for sixth overall with one round remaining.
Andrea Slane of Delaware, which leads the field by 10 strokes, shot a 74-75—149 (+5) to sit atop the leaderboard heading into the final round on Saturday. Her teammate, Valentina Mueller, matched Calbi's 71 in the opening round and is tied for second with two others. With her 81-71—152 (+8), Calbi is just three strokes back, well within striking distance.
Most teams scored better as the day went on, including the Big Green. But junior Jamie Susanin bucked that trend by leading Dartmouth in the first round with a solid 75 (+3). After carding a 79 (+7) the second time through, she was tied for 14th when the scores were posted, knocking in three birdies along the way.
Joining Susanin in a tie for 14th was sophomore Isabelle Kane, Dartmouth's most consistent golfer on the day with a 76-78—154 (+10) as she knocked in 24 pars in the 36 holes, a total surpassed by just four others in the 58-player field. Rounding out the Big Green scores were freshmen Hana Bradshaw and Catharine Roddy in a tie for 39th and 50th, respectively.
Sophomore Jessica Kittelberger also competed for Dartmouth as an individual, ending the day in a tie for 45th.
Dartmouth will start the third and final round on Saturday morning 18 strokes behind Delaware, but just eight strokes behind second-place Brown.
