Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Vernon Harris Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., CB, Football
Senior cornerback Vernon Harris has started every game since arriving on campus, and he has saved his best performances for the end of his career. In his penultimate game, he intercepted not one but two passes in the first quarter as Dartmouth built up a 14-0 lead at Brown. His first pick came on the Bears' first play from scrimmage, then he struck again late in the quarter when a Brown receiver tipped a pass, which Harris plucked from the air and raced 29 yards to the Bear 25. He is the third Big Green defender to record two interceptions in a game this season, giving him three this season and six in his career.
Dana Giordano, Sr., Bernardsville, N.J., Cross Country
Giordano picked a perfect time for her best race of the season, winning the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regional Friday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston. The senior ran a 20:25.7 to win the regional race in a field of more than 250 individuals and punch her ticket to this weekend's nationals with an automatic berth. For Giordano — the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Women's Athlete of the Year — the race this weekend in Louisville will mark her third straight year competing in the final race of the NCAA's cross country season.
