HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners for men's basketball this afternoon, and Dartmouth pulled off a clean sweep as
Miles Wright was chosen as the Player of the Week and
Evan Boudreaux the Rookie of the Week. This is the third weekly honor for Wright in his career after taking home the rookie honor twice last year, while Boudreaux already has two rookie awards to his name just three weeks into the season.
Wright, a sophomore from Boston, Massachusetts, who was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2014-15, shook off a slow start to his season by exploding for 39 points in a
79-56 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, tying the Leede Arena scoring record. His 17 points in the opening half allowed the Big Green to hold a slim 30-27 advantage at the break, then he added 22 more in the second stanza as Dartmouth pulled away from the Blackbirds.
For the game, the 6-5 wing hit 13-of-22 shots, including 7-of-9 three-pointers, while converting 6-of-7 free throws to collect his 39 points, more than any Big Green player since Jim Barton '89 set the school scoring record in 1987 with 48 at Brown. In the decisive second half, Wright missed exactly one shot while draining all five of his three-point attempts and every one of his five foul shots. He also provided 16 of the first 20 Dartmouth points in the second half, helping to keep LIU Brooklyn at arm's length.
Wright, also named the Ivy League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, wasn't merely a scorer as he collected six rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block on the afternoon.
Boudreaux, a freshman from Lake Forest, Illinois, continued to impress early in his career with 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory. Ten of his 13 points came in the second half, and he helped the Big Green turn a 50-45 lead into a 60-50 advantage by scoring six of their 10 points. Dartmouth would not let its lead dip into single digits after that point.
The 6-8 forward was 3-of-7 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the charity stripe, and both of his offensive rebounds led to second-chance points as the Big Green had 21 in the game. Boudreaux also assisted on two baskets and stole the ball once in 29 minutes to complete his line. His 18.0 points scoring average through three games leads the Ivy League, and he is fifth in rebounding at 8.3 per game.
Dartmouth (1-2) returns to the hardwood on Wednesday evening when the Big Green host twin-state rival Vermont (3-4) at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live via
Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network with Jay Burnham calling the action. The Catamounts have won the last seven meetings and 15 of the last 16 with the lone Big Green victory coming on a buzzer-beater in a 76-75 triumph on Nov. 27, 2007.
