HANOVER, N.H. – Despite a 33-17 shot advantage, the Dartmouth women's hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Vermont in its first home game in almost a month on Saturday.
The Big Green dipped to 4-8-2 to close out the first portion of the season, while the Catamounts picked up their first win since Nov. 14 and improved to 4-15-0.
Junior Kennedy Ottenbreit and senior Laura Stacey led the team with a goal and an assist apiece.
The tail end of the first period was an exciting one, as three goals were scored within four minutes. At 12:24, Mackenzie MacNeil got Vermont on the board and, just over a minute later, Casey Leveillee made it 2-0.
At 16:32, Ottenbreit lessened the Catamounts' lead to one with her slapshot from the blueline that sailed past four Vermont players and to the right of Molly Depew in net, following a couple of quick passes between junior Eleni Tebano and Stacey. Ottenbreit's fifth tally of the season came just four seconds into the power play.
The Catamounts got back that two-goal lead just 40 seconds into the second period courtesy of a Victoria Andreakos goal. Dartmouth unleashed almost 20 shots in the next nine minutes, but Depew and her defense held their own and none made it through.
With just over a minute remaining in the third period, Stacey took advantage of Depew covering a previous shot on the left and shot into a wide open right corner to make it 3-2.
Dartmouth went 1-for-2 on the power play and held Vermont to 0-for-1. In net, Robyn Chemago ended the day with 14 saves, while Depew had 31.
The Green will kick off the New Year at Northeastern on Saturday, Jan. 2.
