THIS WEEKEND
After five road games and almost a month away from Thompson Arena, the Dartmouth women's hockey team will take on non-conference rival Vermont at home at 4 p.m. Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green had a 3-2 loss to New Hampshire inside Whittemore Center on Tuesday night. Margo Lund got UNH on the board first, faking left and shooting right and getting past two Dartmouth defenders at 3:34 in the opening stanza. The Big Green controlled a lot of the action and outshot the Wildcats, 9-8, but the home team's defense was on point, blocking nearly half of Dartmouth's attempts. The Green got one of their own to tie the score exactly two minutes into the second period. Kennedy Ottenbreit's slapshot from the blueline was deflected by UNH netminder Kyra Smith, but was backhanded between the goalie's legs by Lindsey Allen for her eighth of the year. That draw did not last long, though, as Cassandra Vilgrain made it 2-1 at 4:34. Video review of a possible UNH goal a minute into the third period ruled in Dartmouth's favor, but the Green were not so lucky at 3:20, when Devan Taylor knocked in the Wildcats' third of the evening. At 15:04, Ailish Forfar took a shot at Smith from the left circle, picked up her own deflection, did a quick spin and fired into the left corner. Trailing, 3-2, the visitors ran out of time before they were able to tie it. Dartmouth outshot UNH, 32-31, and went 1-for-5 with the extra skater, while the Wildcats were 1-for-6. Between the pipes, Robyn Chemago had 28 saves, while Smith had 30.
SO LONG, FAREWELL, AUF WIESDERSEHEN, GOODBYE
This weekend's game marks the close of the first half of the season, as this is the Big Green's final game of 2015. Fourteen regular season games down, 14 to go.
SCOUTING VERMONT
The Catamounts enter Saturday's game with a record of 3-15-0. They opened the year with seven straight losses before picking up a 3-1 win over Providence a month into the season. A week later, Vermont had a 4-2 victory over Maine and two weeks after that, the Catamounts took down Providence again, this time by a score of 4-3. Since that win on Nov. 14, Vermont has dropped games to UConn, Ohio State, Cornell and a trio of contests to Northeastern.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CATAMOUNTS
After trailing by two at the end of the first, Dartmouth came from behind, thanks to three goals scored in each of the final two periods, to defeat Vermont, 6-2, in Gutterson Fieldhouse on Dec. 14, 2014. Allen led the Green with a hat trick and an assist for four points, while Laura Stacey and Ottenbreit each had a pair of points. The Catamounts scored twice late in the first and entered the second period with a comfortable two-goal lead, but those would be the only markers to get past Chemago. Six goals in less than half an hour, including a power-play marker by Allen and a short handed goal by Catherine Berghuis, and Dartmouth left Burlington with a 6-2 victory.
