First Meeting
Concluding California Trip
• Dartmouth will attempt to salvage on a victory on its two-game trip to California with the first-ever game against Cal State Bakersfield on Monday.
• It has been more than four years since the Big Green won a game outside the Eastern Time Zone, that coming at Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 25, 2011. The last Division I win in another time zone came the year before at Drake, 67-59.
• Dartmouth had its modest two-game win streak snapped on Saturday at Stanford, 64-50, in a rematch of the 1942 NCAA Championship game.
• The 50 points were a season low for the Big Green, after entering the game averaging close to 71.
• Sophomore Miles Wright and freshman Evan Boudreaux are the sixth- and seventh-leading scorers in the Ivy League at 14.7 and 14.6 ppg, respectively, but the duo was held to a combined 11 points by the Cardinal.
• Senior Connor Boehm led Dartmouth with 11 points and six rebounds at Stanford. He is eighth in the Ancient Eight in field goal percentage (.508).
• Boudreaux also had six boards and leads the Green on the glass with 8.6 per game, fifth-most in the Ivy League.
• Dartmouth is the second-most accurate free throw shooting team in the Ivy League at 70.6 percent with Boudreaux leading the way at 82.9 percent, fifth in the conference.
Series vs. Cal State Bakersfield
• This is the first-ever meeting on the hardwood between these two programs, and the first game for the Big Green against any Western Athletic Conference squad.
• Dartmouth last played in the state of California during the 2008-09 season, dropping two games at the Golden Bear Classic to host Cal and Air Force, then lost at UC Davis in the final game of the 2008 calendar year.
• The last Big Green victory inside the borders of California came at Loyola Marymount on Dec. 21, 1999, an 89-67 Dartmouth win.
• Paul Cormier is 2-10 outside of the Eastern Time Zone during his current stint with the Big Green.
Scouting the Roadrunners
• Cal State Bakersfield has won its last two games, besting Northern Arizona at home, 72-55, before picking up its first road win at South Dakota on Saturday, 77-67.
• The Roadrunners are especially tough on their home court, winning all four games this year and 11 of their last 12 dating back to last season.
• Bakersfield's leading scorer thus far is redshirt-freshman Damiyne Durham at 16.7 points per game while hitting four three-pointers every time out, but he did not play in the win at South Dakota.
• Power forward Kevin Mays may be just 6-4, but he knows his way around the paint, averaging 14.6 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 57.7 percent.
• Two others produce double-figure points on average — 6-9 center Aly Ahmed (12.6 ppg) and 5-10 guard Dedrick Basile (10.0).
• The Roadrunners protect the ball pretty well, averaging 12.5 turnovers a game.
• Two guards have a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio in Brent Wrapp (30 A, 12 TO) and Justin Pride (24 A, 12 TO), while Basile is close with 24 assists and 14 turnovers.
• CSU Bakersfield is shooting close to 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from long range and 68 percent at the line.
• Rod Barnes (Mississippi '89), the 2001 Naismith College Coach of the Year at Ole Miss, is 62-72 at CSU Bakersfield and 247-260 in his 17th season as a Division I head coach.
California Dreaming
Dartmouth doesn't get out to the great state of California very often, but it is hoping to secure its first victory here since besting Loyola Marymount on Dec. 21, 1999, 89-67. Head coach Paul Cormier won a game in California during his first stint with the Big Green, topping US International (now Alliant), 80-76, on Dec. 20, 1987.
Offense Struggles at Stanford
In the first six games of the season, Dartmouth had scored at least 63 points in every game, topping out at 79 on two occasions. But against a taller and physical Stanford squad, points were hard to come by as the Big Green managed just 50, their fewest since collecting 46 on Jan. 10 against Harvard, a span of 24 games.
Double-Double Streak Ends
Dartmouth had a player register a double-double in five consecutive games — two by Boudreaux, two by Connor Boehm and one by Miles Wright — starting with the road loss at Marist on Nov. 17. But the streak came to an end at Stanford as the team's top rebounders (Boehm and Boudreaux) had just six boards. Last year, the Big Green had a total of six double-doubles, and only three the year before that. The last time Dartmouth had even three straight games with a double-double came in February of 2012.
Here Comes the Boehm
Eh, that's close enough to “boom” to make it work. Senior Connor Boehm was the lone Big Green player to score in double figures at Stanford with 11 points, including Dartmouth's four made free throws. His double-double against Hartford on Dec. 5 (15 points, 11 rebounds) was his second this season and the sixth of his career. He is also on pace to become the 28th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career, needing 104 to reach the milestone. If his scoring remains steady, he should reach it shortly after the Ivy League season gets underway.
Boudreaux Boudreaux Golly!
Maine got a double dose of freshman Evan Boudreaux, who posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, helping the Big Green secure their first road victory of the year, 79-69. The rookie, who has already been selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week twice this year, is seventh in the league in scoring (14.6 ppg) and fifth in rebounding (8.6 rpg).
