Out With the Old ...
• Dartmouth will ring out the 2015 calendar year by hosting Bryant on New Year's Eve afternoon, the third straight year the two teams have sung Auld Lang Syne together.
• The Big Green are looking to improve to 4-1 at home and win both games of this brief homestand following a 78-54 thumping of Longwood nine days ago.
• Freshman Evan Boudreaux led Dartmouth in both scoring (17 points) and rebounding (9) in the victory, helping him earn a share of the Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor for the fourth time already this season.
• Boudreaux ranks among the Ivy League's top 10 in both scoring (13.8 ppg, 9th) and glassworks (8.1 rpg, 4th).
• The Big Green aren't a one-man show, however, with sophomore Miles Wright posting 12.8 ppg (21.3 at home) and senior Connor Boehm in double figures as well at 10.7 ppg.
• Head coach Paul Cormier is still looking for the right floor combinations and employed his third starting lineup of the season in the win over Longwood. Both junior Mike Fleming and freshman Guilien Smith made their first career starts.
• Senior Brandon McDonnell is the Big Green's version of “The Microwave” — he is fourth on the team in scoring (5.4 ppg) but 10th in minutes played, averaging 22.0 ppg per 40 minutes.
Series vs. Bryant
• These two teams are meeting for the fifth straight year since starting the series in the 2011-12 campaign.
• Dartmouth won the first and last contests played against the Bulldogs, with Bryant taking the middle two.
• Connor Boehm displayed his affinity for playing within the borders of the state of Rhode Island by scoring 20 points in the 76-59 win at Bryant last year.
• The Big Green fell behind by eight early in the game, but rallied to open up a 10-point advantage by the break and never looked back.
• Dartmouth is 11-11 all-time against Northeast Conference schools.
• Head coach Paul Cormier is 2-2 against Bryant, and 10-4 against current NEC schools.
Scouting the Bulldogs
• Since winning two of its first three games, Bryant has suffered nine straight defeats, three of which have come against other Ivy League schools.
• The last two games have featured tough opponents in 15th-ranked Providence and Michigan, though the Bulldogs played its in-state foe tough in a 74-67 loss.
• In the first seven of those losses, Bryant shot no better than 23.1 percent from behind the arc, but found the range in the last two at 17-for-42 (.405).
• A pair of 6-2 guards lead the Bulldogs in scoring — Hunter Ware (14.8 ppg) and Nisre Zouzoua (10.8) who have combined to knock down 45 of the squad's 76 three-pointers.
• A third player is also averaging double figures in Dan Garvin (10.3 ppg), who also averages 8.4 rpg.
• Despite Garvin's presence, the Bulldogs have been outrebounded by nearly eight per game.
• Bryant has struggled at the foul line, converting just 58 percent, among the bottom five nationally.
• Tim O'Shea is in his eighth season at Bryant with a 74-149 record, but 53 of those wins came in the previous three seasons. He also guided Ohio for seven years and has a combined record of 198-244.
• Associate head coach Happy Dobbs is a former Dartmouth assistant under Paul Cormier, back during Cormier's first stint in Hanover (1984-91).
Boudreaux Top Rookie for 4th Time
Thanks to a 17-point, nine-rebound performance (not to mention a pair of blocks) against Longwood on Dec. 22, freshman Evan Boudreaux was recognized by the Ivy League as its Rookie of the Week, sharing the honor with Princeton's Devin Cannady. It was the fourth time in seven weeks that the 6-8 forward received the award, the most for a Big Green player since both Jvonte Brooks and Gabas Maldunas claimed it four times each during the 2011-12 season. In case you are wondering, the Big Green record for most rookie weekly honors in one season is six set by Leon Pattman in 2003-04.
24-Point Trouncing
With the 78-54 victory over Longwood on Dec. 22, Dartmouth enjoyed its largest margin of victory (24) against a Division I foe in just over two years. Back on Dec. 14, 2013, the Big Green handed visiting Jacksonville State a 30-point loss, 76-46. Just 17 days later, Dartmouth won by 38, 85-47, against Division III Lesley University. Since Paul Cormier returned as head coach in 2011-12, the Big Green are 6-2 in games decided by 24 or more points.
Topping 50 Percent
Dartmouth shot 51.0 percent (26-of-51) in the 78-54 win over Longwood on Dec. 22, the first time it had connected on at least half of its shots in a game this year. In the five games the Big Green have played against the Lancers, they have topped 50 percent four times and have shot 53.2 percent (138-for-252). In addition, it was just the fourth game since the start of the 2014-15 season that Dartmouth hit 50 percent or better, doing so against Longwood twice and Columbia twice.
New-Look Lineup
Paul Cormier was looking to snap a three-game skid, so he turned to surging freshman Guilien Smith and junior Mike Fleming to make their first career starts on Dec. 22 against Longwood. The move paid off as Smith dropped in 11 points and Fleming ran the point for 25 minutes to help the Big Green come away with a 24-point victory. Both times Cormier has shaken up the starting rotation, Dartmouth has gone on to win that contest. Perhaps he should come up with a new lineup every game …
Home Sweet Home
The Big Green have posted a winning record at Leede Arena in each of the past two seasons, and they are continuing that trend thus far with a 3-1 mark this year. Over the last two-plus seasons, Dartmouth is 19-12 (.613) on its home court.
