PRINCETON, N.J. –Three goals within five minutes in the second period helped lift Princeton over the Dartmouth women's hockey team, 4-1, at Hobey Baker Rink on Saturday. The Big Green fell to 4-6-2 and 4-3-2 in ECAC Hockey action, while the Tigers improved to 9-4-1 and 5-4-1.
"I thought we played a good first and third," head coach Mark Hudak said after the game, "but we had some mental lapses that cost us the second."
Midway through the first period and 57 seconds into the power play, senior Laura Stacey intercepted a Tiger pass and, even after having the puck knocked off her stick, she regained possession and shot it just under the crossbar to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. Princeton tried to counter and tested netminder Robyn Chemago with a handful of shots all in a row, but the junior made four quick saves before the threat was cleared. She totaled 15 saves in the first.
After the Big Green had held the Tigers scoreless for over 30 minutes, the home team turned things around by tying the score at 10:30 with a Morgan Sly marker and taking a one-goal lead 33 seconds later courtesy of Karlie Lund's flick into the left corner. Cassidy Tucker added one of her own at 15:10 and, after an extended video review, Princeton ended the second ahead, 3-1.
The third period was as aggressive as the previous two and both teams had a number of opportunities, but neither goalie would give in. With 25 seconds remaining and an empty net, Princeton got its fourth to end the game.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth, 41-31. Junior Kennedy Ottenbreit led the team with six shots. The Green went 1-for-6 on the power play and held the Tigers to 0-for-6. In net, Chemago ended the day with 37 saves, while Kimberly Newell had 30.
The Big Green will play their final road game of 2015 on Tuesday, Dec. 8, when they head to New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. game. Dartmouth will play at home one last time to wrap up the first half of the season on Saturday, Dec. 12, taking on Vermont.
