THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's hockey will get back to conference contests on Friday and Saturday, continuing on its five-game road trip to take on No. 5/5 Quinnipiac and Princeton.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green spent a long weekend in the Midwest to play a pair of games against No. 1 Wisconsin, falling on both. In her 100th career game on Friday, Lindsey Allen netted Dartmouth's lone goal at 5:04 in the opening period, tying the score at one after Annie Pankowski opened scoring less than three minutes earlier. Allen picked up Laura Stacey's deflected shot and sent it to the left of netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens, who was still covering her right post after saving Stacey's shot. Allen has scored Dartmouth's first goal in six of the nine games the team has played so far in 2015-16 and is the first Green player to get past a Wisconsin goalie since 2005. Although Dartmouth dropped the game, 4-1, it can boast that they were just the fifth team to score on the Badgers all season. The next day, the visitors dropped a 4-0 decision to the Badgers. The Big Green managed to hold off Wisconsin until halfway through the second period and are just the third opponent all season to not allow a Badger goal in the first. Robyn Chemago had a record weekend between the pipes. On Friday, she made a career-high 49 saves, only to crush that on Saturday, stopping 59 shots. Throughout the weekend, she made 108 saves in 120 minutes of action and had a .931 save percentage.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats are off to a great start, entering the weekend at 11-1-3 and 5-1-2, with the one loss of the season coming in the form of 4-3 defeat at Yale on Halloween. Since then, Quinnipiac – who sits atop the ECAC Hockey standings – has blanked Colgate (0-0), Clarkson (3-0), St. Lawrence (5-0), UConn (1-0) and, as an act of revenge, Yale (3-0), while also defeating Cornell (3-1) and going 1-0-1 against Princeton (4-2, 1-1), extending their unbeaten streak to eight games. Over the weekend, the Bobcats won their third consecutive Nutmeg Classic Championship following those victories over the Huskies and the Bulldogs. Sydney Rossman was named the Most Valuable Goaltender after picking up her fourth consecutive shutout. Against ECAC Hockey opponents, she is first in both goals against average (1.12) and win percentage (.833). Taylar Cianfarano leads the conference in goals (15) and is second behind Cayley Mercer of Clarkson in points (23).
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BOBCATS
Dartmouth went 0-1-1 against Quinnipiac during the 2014-15 season. At home on Dec. 5, the Big Green and the Bobcats – who were No. 4/4 in the country at that point – tied, 4-4, thanks to a tally by Eleni Tebano with just three minutes remaining in the third stanza to send the game to overtime. On the road a month later, Dartmouth fell, 3-1, as Brooke Ahbe scored the lone Green goal at the end of the third period.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
With their 7-4-1 overall record and 3-4-1 record in conference play, the Tigers are currently fifth in the standings, just two spots before the Green. After dropping a pair of games to St. Lawrence and No. 4 Clarkson the weekend before, Princeton is coming off a 4-0 shutout and 6-1 victory, both over RIT this past weekend. Karlie Lund leads the team with four goals and four assists for eight points.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE TIGERS
Like it did against Quinnipiac, Dartmouth went 0-1-1 versus Princeton last season. On Dec. 6, with the score tied at two-all, the Tigers went on to score three goals in an eight-minute span in the third to leave Hanover with a 5-2 victory. Meeting inside Hobey Baker Rink on Jan. 30, Dartmouth was leading by two halfway through the second before Princeton got two of its own to end the game in a 2-2 draw.
LEADING THE WAY
Allen is the first Dartmouth player to have reached double digit points this season, as she is first with her seven goals and three assists. Right behind her are Stacey with nine points (2G, 7A) and Kennedy Ottenbreit (4G, 4A).
AND IN NET…
Against Wisconsin, Chemago had an impressive 108 saves throughout the two games (49 on Friday, 59 on Saturday) and a .931 save percentage. In nine games, she has a record of 4-3-2, has made 247 saves, a .943 save percentage and 1.70 goals against average. In the conference, she is fourth in goals against average and third in save percentage (.943). Christie Honor has seen time in net during her first season with the Big Green, appearing between the pipes for 77 minutes. She has made 17 saves, has a .708 percentage and 5.43 goals against average. Dartmouth's third goaltender this season is Shannon Ropp, who has not yet entered a game.
100 GAMES AND COUNTING
Allen and fellow senior Catherine Berghuis were the first members of the Class of 2016 to reach 100 career games this past weekend. Soon to join the club will be Olivia Whitford (97), Zoe Brennan (95) and Stacey (91).
