HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball this afternoon, and Dartmouth wing
Miles Wright was once again selected as the Rookie of the Week. The freshman took home the award last week as well to become just the second Big Green player ever to earn this honor in consecutive weeks.
Wright, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, continued his recent tear against Cornell and Columbia at Leede Arena over the weekend. Against the Big Red, the 6-4 rookie led Dartmouth with 19 points while connecting on 7-of-11 field goals, including a season-high five three-pointers. He also grabbed five rebounds and stole the ball twice in an 81-72 overtime loss. The following evening, Wright tallied 16 points to lead the Big Green in scoring for a fourth straight game to help Dartmouth snap a five-game skid by beating the Lions, 61-49. The product of Tabor Academy sank 6-of-9 shots with two more triples and matched a personal best with six rebounds — four on the offensive glass — while once again swiping the ball twice. In the two games, Wright averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 65 percent overall and 63.6 percent from behind the arc.
Wright has played in every game this season, but in the last two weeks (consisting of four games), he has boosted his scoring average from 5.4 to 7.9 points per game and has knocked down 28-of-49 field goals (.571) and 9-of-20 three-pointers (.450).
Dartmouth (9-13, 2-6 Ivy) will conclude a four-game homestand when Princeton (11-12, 4-3 Ivy) and Penn (7-14, 2-5 Ivy) come to Hanover this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday, respectively, each tipping off at 7 p.m. The games will be streamed live through the Big Green Insider on the Ivy League Digital Network with
Drew Galbraith calling all of the action.
Notes: The only other Dartmouth player to be named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week in consecutive weeks was Leon Pattman '07, who won the award six times, including the last four in a row … the Big Green will be attempting to split the season series with both the Tigers and Quakers as Dartmouth fell at Penn on Jan. 30, 58-51, and the next night at Princeton, 64-53.
