HANOVER, N.H. – The goal this weekend for the Dartmouth men's track & field team is to score as many points in as many difference events and put itself in a position to surprise some people.
That's the mentality that The Marjorie and Herbert Chase '30 Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Barry Harwick '77 has instilled in his team as they prepare for the 2015 Indoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championship at Harvard's Albert H. Gordon Track.
The highlight of last year's championship meet at home inside Leverone Field House was the Big Green's title in the distance medley relay on Sunday afternoon, capturing the event crown for the first time since 2008. However, only Phil Gomez remains from that quartet, giving Dartmouth a fresh look, a trend that will be seen in numerous events through the weekend.
Harwick expects strong showings from Curtis King and Joey Chapin, who put together two of the best times in the mile in Dartmouth history earlier this month at BU. King's time of 4:01.45 was the seventh fastest in program history and a new PR for the junior from the Pacific Northwest, while Chapin's time of 4:02.48 is currently the 10th best ever by a Dartmouth student-athlete.
Both running and field events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's finals will be carried live on the Ivy League Digital Network for subscribers beginning at noon and continuing through the completion of the awards ceremony.
