No. 62 Women's Tennis Claims ECAC Women's Tennis Title

ITHACA, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Dartmouth women's tennis team captured its first-ever ECAC Winter Championship following a 4-0 sweep of No. 2 seed Columbia on Sunday afternoon. The No. 62 Big Green improved to 8-0 on the season, while the No. 39 Lions dipped to 2-3.

Sophomore Taylor Ng and freshman Kristina Mathis started the day off with a 6-4 victory over Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung at No. 1. A 7-5 win by junior Katherine Yau and freshman Alexxis Kiven over Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev at No. 2 snagged the doubles point for Dartmouth and gave the Green a 1-0 edge heading into singles.

At No. 5, senior co-captain Akiko Okuda put the first point on the board with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Vivian Cheng. Freshman Julia Schroeder then scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Adi Milstein, and a few minutes later, Ng completed the Green sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jiang at No. 1. In the three matches that were retired before completion, all three Dartmouth players had won their first sets against their Lion opponents.

"We had outstanding performances as a team all weekend, and displayed great confidence, focus, and composure in every match," said head coach Bob Dallis. "We never got rattled, even when we fell behind in matches, and just kept fighting and going for our shots. I'm really proud of this team and the fantastic job they do representing Dartmouth as student-athletes."

Dartmouth will hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 21, heading to Minneapolis to face Drake and host Minnesota.
